Professor Andrea M. Tonello visits UFJF

On October 30th and 31st, 2023, the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) had the honor of hosting the distinguished Professor Andrea M. Tonello. Prof. Dr. Tonello, Chair of the Embedded Communication Systems Group at the University of Klagenfurt, Austria, delivered a special lecture on the topic “Where PLC Meets Wireless Communications for Massive IoT and Smart Grid”.

With an extensive academic background, Prof. Dr. Tonello received the Laurea degree (summa cum laude) in electrical engineering and the Ph.D. degree in electronics and telecommunications from the University of Padova, Padua, Italy, in 1996 and 2002, respectively. His research interests focus on wireless and power line communications, networked and embedded systems, electronics for communications, smart transportation and smart grids.

During the lecture, Prof. Dr. Tonello addressed the intersection between Power Line Communication (PLC) and wireless technologies, exploring how this integration can drive Internet of Things (IoT) deployments and foster the development of smart grids, particularly in the context of modern electrical networks. His specialized knowledge and experience were crucial to the students, faculty, and professionals in attendance.

The event, organized by INERGE, was a unique opportunity for the academic and professional community to engage in stimulating discussions about the future of communications and technology. Participation in this event and interaction with one of the leading telecommunications experts provided an enriching experience for all attendees.
